Mind
Power - Power of Inner mind II
Welcome
friends to the next issue of mindpower.
As we have seen, the mind is the tool and the universe is the
object, we should discuss more about sharpening our tool.
Ancient Vedas say that mind is like a wild monkey, which keeps
on wandering here and there, and on the top of it, the monkey
is drunk and has been possessed by a ghost!! The description
is only to reveal the true nature of the mind.
Our mind is the passenger and the vehicle is the body, we have
hands and feet just to carry out the commands of our minds.
What is the difference between the happiest person and the most
pitiable person in the world? It’s the mind again. There
are no good things or the bad things in the world. We just have
things!! We make them good or bad in our own mind.
We
have the famous story in the Second World War. A German soldier
had a Russian prisoner of war. They were alone in the village
with no third soul around. The master German used to torture
the Russian almost till death daily, as he had nothing else
to do! The Russian thought of committing suicide at least ten
times a day. Then the news floated that the Germans were losing
and Russians were coming, and the red army would spare no German.
In frustration, the torture went up and one moment, the Russian
left all the hopes of life, bit his both wrists and started
bleeding profusely. He just lay in a corner waiting for the
death to come. Some distance away, a landmine in next village
exploded suddenly after a hungry dog tried to eat that, and
was destroyed to pieces, the Russian got up from the deathbed
thinking the red army was there and the German put his gun on
his own head and pulled the trigger. And the Russian started
running and could easily escape to safety!!
It
was an event, but the mental reaction could make the difference
of life and the death.
Lets
start learning about training of this stupid monkey, get him
organized and teach him some good things to synchronize his
energy.
Practice
Session 1:
Sit in a comfortable position, ideally cross-legged or padmasana
would be better still.
Keep both of your palms open facing upwards on your thighs.
Concentrate all your attention to this process. Concentrate
on left little finger, gradually fold it , partially, then completely.
This should take around 10 seconds. Observe the various colour
changes in the finger due to movement and changes in the capillary
blood supply, experience the different sensations at different
small joints, see the shadow of the finger moving slowly, feel
the touch of the tip of the finger on the palm, and don’t
even entertain a single thought unrelated to this in your mind.
Gradually, slowly, fold all the ten fingers and unfold them one
by one in the reverse order. Repeat the process twice a day.
Scientific
basis: The fingers of our hands do have a very large
area of representation in the cerebral cortex, i.e. in the brain.
The joints of the fingers are provided with a very rich network
of nerves and vessels and there are numerous muscles and joints
for the highly skillful movements. Man has acquired this during
the evolution. Research says that this process can make our
mind one pointed easily and effortlessly .In the preliminary
stages of mind concentration, training mind with eyes closed
can lead to wandering of mind onto other thoughts. Here we can
actually see the finger moving so it becomes quite easy to concentrate.
We recommend this as the first lesson or the stepping-stone
to start to awaken the mind.

Chandratreya
